A viral film featuring Headway Nottingham members, highlighting common misconceptions about brain injuries, has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2018 Charity Film of the Year Awards!

'Things not to say to someone with a brain injury' has received more than 120,000 views, with 25,000 of those on launch day alone. The film, produced by Headway - the brain injury association, was launched as part of their 'A New Me' campaign for Action on Brain Injury Week 2017.

The short film takes a light-hearted approach to the serious issue of misunderstanding experienced by people with brain injuries.  Featuring members of Headway Nottingham and Headway Cardiff, the film shows their immediate reactions to commonly-heard statements such as 'I know what you mean - I've got a terrible memory too!' and 'But you don't look disabled'.

Most importantly the film has generated much-needed online discussion and debate on the subject of brain injury, and we hope it will continue to grow understanding of the issues surrounding brain injury that are often otherwise side-lined.

A Facebook user contributed:  "I was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 20 April 2015 and I can so relate to al of these comments have heard the countless times but that is other people's ignorance which is why we need to raise awareness... it is so refreshing meeting others with a brain tumour because 'they get it'... great video..."

Well done to everyone involved in creating the film and fingers crossed for the judges vote in February!
