Over a million people in this country live with the consequences of traumatic brain injury.  Aside from the tremendous impact of this upon the lives of individuals and their loved ones, this huge issue has a cost to the economy of around £15 billion a year.

Chris Bryant, the MP for Rhondda  and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Acquired Brain Injury, is the sponsor of the Acquired Brain Injury Private Members’ Bill.

The Bill is calling for a comprehensive strategy to be implemented in order to meet the needs of adults and children with an acquired brain injury. This strategy, to be published no later than April 2023, aims to improve the provision of services by local authorities, NHS, Department for Education, Ministry of Defence, Prison Service, Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

The Bill, which covers England and Wales, will have its second reading in the Chamber on Friday, 3 December 2021.

A coalition of organisations are working to support the bill, including the national Headway network, United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum, The Children's Trust, Disabilities Trust and Children's Brain Injury Trust. We need to ensure that as many MPs as possible formally support the bill. This will give it the greatest chance of moving to the next stage and becoming legislation.

You can help by asking your MP to support the bill. You can also ask your colleagues and contact to do the same.   Visit ABIBill.org.uk for resources to lend your support to this important campaign.
